Tomato Flu is a rare viral disease. This disease causes red-coloured rashes, skin irritation and dehydration. The disease gets its name from the blisters it causes, which look like tomatoes. The tomato fever is affecting children below the age of five in Kerala.

Symptoms of Tomato Flu

The main symptoms of this disease are-

  • Large tomato sized blisters that are red in colour
  • Body ache
  • High fever
  • Swelling of joints
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Fatigue
  • Vomiting

What is the treatment for Tomato Flu?

Tomato flu is contagious. Those, who are infected with this flu, need to be kept in isolation as this could spread rapidly from one person to another.

Children should be restricted from scratching the blisters caused by the flu. Proper rest and hygiene is also advised. Utensils, clothes and other items used by the infected persons must be sanitized to prevent the flu from spreading.
